Cited by Pop Matters magazine as "Eclectic, steadfast and powerful - making new and truthful music", Bipolar Explorer are an NYC-based minimalist indie rock group featuring Summer Serafin (vocals), former Uncle frontman Michael Serafin-Wells (lead guitar & vocals), Jason Sutherland (guitar & backing vocals) Sean Lahey (guitar & electronics) and Elizabeth Rossa (bass), currently at work on the followup to their debut "Go Negative" which featured 12 songs written and recorded by Serafin-Wells and drummer Yves Gerard. That record - described by CD Baby as "highly infectious, guitar-driven, hyper-literate indie rock..." - Michael sees as something of an extension of his previous band (Uncle)'s sound. The newly constituted trio has a slightly different approach, working on a new record, presently untitled, for release later this year. Citing some of the same influences - Paul Westerberg, Ian McKaye - but considering their more recent work (Westerberg's "Suicaine Gratifaction", McKaye's "The Evens") and looking to others including Justin Vernon, Ben Gibbard, Matt Berninger and perhaps most notably, Duluth's Low. "We're basically not-quite-former punkrockers who decided to try playing not so damn loud and without a drummer. Partly out of necessity and partly to see if we liked it", says Serafin-Wells.
